I have not read this book yet, but I have to say that it seems problematic to me given that Sage’s trans-ness is portrayed as deception. Someone who’s trans isn’t lying about their gender. If they are a MTF trans person than they ARE a woman, if they are a FTM trans person then they ARE a man. Is this addressed in the book?
